The world’s first hostel inside a real Boeing 747-200 aircraft will open at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport in December. On Thursday, August 28 the jumbo jet will be moved to the airport entrance, where it will be refurbished to provide an unconventional accommodation experience. The Jumbo Hostel will become a new Stockholm-Arlanda landmark.

Japanese charter flight at Stockholm-Arlanda

A Japanese chartered Boeing 747-400 landed yesterday, July 8, at Stockholm-Arlanda. Japan Airlines International (JAL) is flying between Japan and Stockholm-Arlanda Airport this summer. This will initially be a brief test series of charter flights for Japanese tourists, but LFV has hopes of a permanent non-stop route.

Stockholm-Arlanda ready for hundreds of dogs

It will be the week of the dog at Stockholm-Arlanda. Between 500 and 1,500 dogs are expected to pass through the airport in conjunction with the World Dog Show 2008. More than 20,000 dogs from 57 countries are registered as participants. The airport has engaged the services of dog greeters and built special dog toilets featuring real lawns.

Record number of non-stop flights to US and China

Today, June 4, Delta Air Lines is starting service on the Atlanta-Stockholm route with flights six days a week. Altogether, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport can offer 36 non-stop departures to the United States every week, which is a new record.
The airport is also offering a record number of departures to China, ten per week.

New cargo terminal to be built at Stockholm-Arlanda

Air cargo is continuing to grow at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. An additional terminal will now be built as Netherlands-based AST holding expands its operations in Sweden. The terminal will be 5,700 square metres in size. Another 30 jobs will be created and transport services will become more environmentally friendly.

More green approaches now possible

Stockholm-Arlanda Airport’s green approaches are now going into more regular service. What was previously a trial project has now been approved, opening the way for all airlines to use green approaches when landing at Stockholm-Arlanda. The number of green approaches is thus expected to increase from 10 to 30 per day. For the time being, such approaches may only be used during off-peak traffic.

In its proposal to the Swedish Parliament’s Climate Committee, which presented its report yesterday, the Green Party of Sweden proposed that Swedish domestic aviation south of Sundsvall should be discontinued. Such a step would have little effect on overall Swedish carbon dioxide emissions but would cause major impediments to accessibility in a large, thinly populated country like Sweden.

Curved approach past Upplands Väsby within ten years

Sigtuna becomes a partner in the Arlanda Visitor Centre

On Friday, August 24, Swedish business daily Dagens Industri wrote about Arlanda’s expansion. The airport plans to complete the building between Terminal 5 and Pier F that was “trimmed” due to the sharp downturn in finances and air traffic a few years ago, but the project does not involve the amounts stated in the newspaper. The correct figure is about SEK 300 million.
