The number of passengers to and from Stockholm’s two major airports, Stockholm-Arlanda and Stockholm-Bromma, rose by three percent during 2007 compared to 2006. International travel increased by five per cent, while Swedish domestic travel decreased by two per cent.
The demand for international air travel was heavy throughout the year but especially strong during the second half. In December, international travel from Stockholm-Arlanda and Stockholm-Bromma increased by nine percent compared to the same month of 2006.
During 2007, Stockholm-Arlanda added non-stop service to 21 destinations in Europe, mainly with a low fare profile. The airport also added new service to Beijing (China), Bangkok (Thailand) and Doha (Qatar).
A total of 19,718,728 passengers flew to and from the Swedish capital’s two airports during 2007, of whom 17,913,079 used Stockholm-Arlanda and 1,805,649 travelled via Stockholm-Bromma.
The number of flights decreased, however. During the year, 280,680 aircraft took off and landed at the two airports, a decline of one per cent.
“Taken together, this means that more people have gained the opportunity to travel but on fewer aircraft, which is both economically and environmentally more efficient,” says Niclas Härenstam, Manager Press Relations at the Stockholm Division of LFV, the State enterprise that operates Sweden’s major airports.
