The number of international passengers at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport increased by eight per cent during the first six months of 2008 compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile domestic passenger numbers rose by two per cent.
Passenger growth was stable throughout the first half. This was especially true of international traffic, which was strong during the entire period, but during the late spring domestic traffic also showed good growth figures.
The overall increase during the period was six per cent compared to the year-earlier figure, and passenger numbers totalled 9,304,666. Three out of four passengers were taking international flights, while one out of four travelled within Sweden.
In June the increase in both international travel and domestic travel was four per cent compared to June 2007. There are a number of reasons behind the increase, aside from generally good economic conditions.
“During the spring Stockholm-Arlanda managed to add no fewer than 22 new air routes, and the choice of non-stop flights to the United States and China is record-sized this summer. Furthermore, the airlines at Stockholm-Arlanda have by far the largest range of low fare tickets,” says Niclas Härenstam, Manager Press Relations at LFV Stockholm-Arlanda Airport.
