Aviation in Stockholm had another strong month during February. The number of passengers taking international flights at Stockholm-Arlanda and Stockholm-Bromma increased by 15 per cent and domestic passengers by two per cent.
“This is an encouraging development that shows that the economy is still performing well in the Stockholm region and that people value aviation. The relationship between air travel and economic growth is strong,” says Mats Sigurdson, Aviation Marketing Manager of LFV, the state enterprise that operates Sweden’s major airports.
A total of 1,536,616 people travelled by air − internationally or domestically − to and from Stockholm-Arlanda and Stockholm-Bromma in February. This was a ten per cent increase on February 2007. Since 2008 is a leap year, with an extra day in February, the figure is about four percentage points higher than it would otherwise be.
“Together with other actors in the region, LFV has systematically invested in marketing Sweden and Stockholm abroad. The current figures are partly a result of this work. Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, in particular, has attracted more non-stop intercontinental air routes and more airlines with a low fare profile,” Mr Sigurdson says.
