Record number of non-stop flights to US and China

[2008-06-04 20:19]

Today, June 4, Delta Air Lines is starting service on the Atlanta-Stockholm route with flights six days a week. Altogether, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport can offer 36 non-stop departures to the United States every week, which is a new record.

The airport is also offering a record number of departures to China, ten per week.

Delta Air Lines will be the fifth airline flying non-stop between Stockholm and the US. Atlanta, which has the world’s largest airport, offers onward connections to 150 destinations, among them Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Miami.

“We are glad to be able to offer our customers in Stockholm and the rest of Sweden the opportunity to fly non-stop to Atlanta. The Scandinavian market is an important part of Delta’s global expansion strategy,” says Bob Hannah, regional director multi-national sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Delta Air Lines.

Delta Air Lines flies a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft seating 214 passengers.

Also flying to the US from Stockholm-Arlanda are Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) with daily service to New York and Chicago; Continental Airlines with daily service to New York; US Airways six times a week to Philadelphia; and Malaysia Airlines three times a week to New York.

Looking at air services to China, SAS flies six times a week to Beijing and Air China four times a week. Since the two airlines work together, both SAS and Air China can offer an additional 40-plus destinations after a quick change of aircraft in Beijing.

“Having many large airlines that also work together with each other and with additional airlines gives you nearly endless potential combinations. From Stockholm-Arlanda, you can reach practically the whole world with one change of aircraft,” says Mats Sigurdson, Director Aviation Marketing at LFV, the State enterprise that operates Sweden’s major airports.
