The Municipality of Sigtuna is committing funds to a new three-year collaborative venture with LFV Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. Sigtuna Turism AB will provide staff to contribute tourism-related expertise and work with other interested parties to develop the Arlanda Visitor Centre at Sweden’s largest airport, the Sigtuna Municipal Board decided on Monday evening, August 27.
This is a press release from the Municipality of Sigtuna.
This autumn the Arlanda Visitor Centre (AVC) will be inaugurated at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. The AVC is centrally located in Terminal 5, through which a majority of the airport’s international passengers pass each year. The AVC will be operated by LFV Arlanda in close collaboration with the Stockholm Visitors Board and the local tourism agency Sigtuna Turism AB.
LFV Arlanda had previously collaborated with the Stockholm Visitors Board on such matters as developing the concept for the Arlanda Visitor Centre. Now this collaboration is being broadened further, with Sigtuna Turism AB supplying tourism expertise by stationing a full-time employee at the airport who will participate in the development of the Arlanda Visitor Centre.
“The tourist industry is extremely important to the Municipality of Sigtuna, and especially Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. As Arlanda’s host municipality, we obviously want to have a presence and be involved in greeting visitors directly at the airport. This is a unique opportunity, and we should accept it,” says Anders Johansson, a Social Democrat who is Chairman of the Municipal Executive Committee.
Jan Lindqvist, Head of Corporate Communications, LFV Arlanda, welcomes this collaboration with the municipality. “As an airport, we naturally want to collaborate at all levels. And we are extremely fortunate to have access to such a high level of expertise − locally, regionally and nationally.”
The person that the municipal agency plans to station at the AVC will be at the disposal of LFV Arlanda with immediate effect, initially for a three-year period.
“When we heard that LFV Stockholm-Arlanda was going to open a Visitor Centre, we cheered at this initiative. Later, when we were asked to participate in developing the centre and helping to develop its tourist information procedures, we didn’t hesitate one second before accepting the challenge. It will be exciting to work towards presenting information about the entire region and towards making the AVC a vibrant meeting place,” comments Camilla Zedendahl, Managing Director of Sigtuna Turism.

Facts:
The Arlanda Visitor Centre (AVC) will be an important attraction and gathering place at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport − a 300 square meter exhibition space that will focus on the airport and tourism. Employing modern technology, it will awaken curiosity and inspire the visitor to discover what the Stockholm region has to offer. LFV Stockholm-Arlanda Airport owns the concept but has initiated far-reaching collaboration with the Stockholm Visitors Board and now also Sigtuna Turism AB.
The Municipality of Sigtuna is the home of Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. The airport is the largest workplace in the municipality. There are 15,000 airport-based employees. Arlanda offers 167 non-stop destinations in Sweden, elsewhere in Europe and around the world on 74 airlines. This year LFV expects 18 million passengers at Arlanda, including 12 million on international flights.
Sigtuna Turism will provide resources enabling the airport to devise tourist information procedures and will be responsible for ensuring a level of expertise that brings the centre up to “Blue and Yellow” authorisation standards (capable of providing information about local, regional and national tourist attractions as well as booking accommodations) and will handle contacts with customers and collaboration partners. Above all, this will involve active hands-on participation in the AVC’s work.
Sigtuna Turism AB is entrusted with developing the tourist industry in the Municipality of Sigtuna and is a collaborative effort between the municipality and the business community. The company was established in 1992 and operates a “Blue and Yellow” authorised tourist information office in the City of Sigtuna.
