The number of passengers at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport increased by nine per cent in May, compared to the same month last year. A total of 1,711,759 people chose to travel via Stockholm-Arlanda during the month.
In May 2008, international passengers numbered 1,229,613 and represented an upturn of eight per cent. Meanwhile 482,146 people flew domestically, equivalent to an upturn of eleven per cent.
“The unexpectedly large traffic increase since early this year continued in May. Intercontinental non-stop traffic continues to expand substantially faster than traffic within Europe. The latest example is Delta Air Lines, which inaugurated a new route on June 4 between Atlanta and Stockholm,” says Mats Sigurdson, Director Aviation Marketing of LFV, the State enterprise that operates Sweden’s major airports.
In statistical terms, the figures represent some exaggeration due to the strike that affected Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) in May 2007. So far this year, the number of passengers at Stockholm-Arlanda has increased by seven per cent, while the number of take-offs and landings is up by six per cent.
