Sweden’s tourism revenue keeps growing in November

November was yet another in a series of strong tourism months in Sweden. The Arlanda Visitor Index shows an export value of SEK 5 billion for the month.
An export value of SEK 5 billion signifies an 11.3 per cent increase compared to November 2006. The accumulated export value of tourism in Sweden during the first eleven months of 2007 is SEK 75.5 billion, an increase of more than 6.4 per cent on the year-earlier period.
“These figures confirm the value of non-stop routes. The more destinations that can be reached − to and from Stockholm − without time-consuming changes of aircraft, the easier for the traveller in both directions. Non-stop routes are also better for the environment than flights with stopovers,” says Jan Lindqvist, Head of Corporate Communication, Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
“Long weekend trips are becoming more common, so transport to the final destination mustn’t take too much time. Visitors plan the dates relatively early in their crowded calendars, but they decide on their destination at shorter notice,” says Eva Hedenstrom, CEO of Föreningen Turism i Sverige (FörTur), a Swedish tourist trade organisation.
A total of 1.5 million passengers travelled to and from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport in November. International travel is continuing to increase and was up 10 per cent compared to November 2006.
The Arlanda Index is based on the number of international passengers arriving at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. Studies have shown a very high correlation between the number of passengers at Stockholm-Arlanda and tourist industry figures in terms of revenue and overnight stays.
