Norwegian starts air route to Syria

[2008-06-09 09:31]

Norwegian Air Shuttle is continuing its eastward expansion from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport by offering air service to Aleppo, Syria. The route opens on Monday, June 9 and will be flown once a week during the summer.

“Aleppo is a historic, exciting and attractive destination. There are also many people in Sweden with ethnic and family ties to the surrounding region, who will now enjoy an opportunity to travel there easily and visit friends and acquaintances at low fares,” says Bjørn Kjos, CEO of Norwegian.

Syria has a rich history, with beautiful mosques, a major role in the Crusades and magnificent ruins. Aleppo, located in northern Syria, is the country’s second largest city with about two million inhabitants. It is one of the world’s oldest cities and has played a prominent role as a trading centre for people with different backgrounds and cultures. Even today, the visitor can experience an awe-inspiring sense of history among the old ruins and lively bazaars of the city.

Norwegian will fly the Aleppo route every Monday during the summer using an MD 80 aircraft. Also flying to Aleppo from Stockholm-Arlanda is Syrian Arab Airlines.
