SAS starting new routes to Croatia and Norway

[2007-12-21 08:51]

In time for next summer, SAS Sweden is introducing three new destinations from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport: Zagreb (Croatia), Stavanger and Tromsø (Norway). In addition, the airline will boost its number of departures to various Swedish, Scandinavian and European destinations starting on March 30 due to heavy demand.

The Stockholm-Zagreb route will open on March 31, with departures from Stockholm-Arlanda late on Monday and Friday mornings. On April 30, SAS Sweden will add departures to the Croatian capital on Wednesdays.

SAS Sweden will begin flying the Stockholm-Stavanger route on March 30, with departures late on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings.

“With these new routes, we are continuing our important expansion in Europe. The destinations in Croatia and Norway are the result of greater interest in travel to these countries, above all as tourist destinations, but also as business destinations,” says Susanne Dahlberg, Revenue Manager of SAS Sweden.

During the period June 23 to August 22, SAS Sweden will also fly non-stop between Stockholm and Tromsø, the Paris of the North. There will be flights on Mondays and Fridays, departing from Stockholm at lunch time.

“We are great believers in non-stop routes to Norway, both for business travellers and for tourists. Stavanger is Norway’s oil and gas extraction centre as well as a European Capital of Culture during 2008. Trondheim and Bergen, which we have flown to previously, are beautiful cities with lots of tourists, and both cities are also excellent starting points for those who want to ride Norway’s Hurtigrutten coastal ferries,” Ms Dahlberg says.

Starting on March 30, SAS Sweden will also increase its number of departures from Stockholm to numerous other destinations, both domestic and to other parts of Scandinavia and Europe: Malmö, Luleå, Trondheim, Bergen, Helsinki (Finland), Nice (France), Rome (Italy), Barcelona (Spain) and Athens (Greece).

In addition, as early as February 3 the airline will double its number of departures from Stockholm to Munich (Germany) from one to two. SAS Sweden in collaboration with Lufthansa will thus offer six daily flights to Munich.

“The increased number of departures to these cities is a consequence of rising customer demand. We have never before flown so much to the major summer destinations of Barcelona, Athens, Nice and Rome from Stockholm. SAS Sweden is thus strengthening its position as the airline that flies to the most destinations and has the most departures. Meanwhile we are the airline in Sweden that sells the most low fare tickets, so we offer customers a very competitive range of choices,” Ms Dahlberg says.
